2025 2nd Annual CREATURES, CHARACTERS + CURIOUS PLACES
January 17- March 22, 2025
Selby Foundation Illustration Gallery
Opening reception + Art Walk, January 17, 5-8pm, free + open the public
This juried exhibition showcases artworks inspired by Ringling College's 3-D Design course, where students conceptualize and handcraft immersive three-dimensional worlds. Through an iterative creative process, students begin by developing two distinct conceptual pitches, which are presented to their peers and professor for critique and final approval.
The chosen concept centers around a narrative featuring three key characters: a protagonist-hero, a sidekick, and an antagonist-villain. Students dedicate time to developing detailed character backstories while exploring costume designs, dynamic poses, and expressive facial features. Once the final designs are refined, students bring their characters to life through sculpting and posing, capturing a compelling moment of action or conflict within the storyline. The work culminates with the creation of an environment that complements the scene, crafted using a variety of materials.
