The exhibition, Jack Davis: Legacy of Laughter, celebrates the illustrated artwork of iconic American artist, Jack Davis, in honor of his 100th birthday and is a unique and nostalgic journey through the whimsical and satirical world he created. Presented by Ringling College's esteemed Exhibition Design and Management course, this captivating showcase will be held at the prestigious Lois and David Stulberg Gallery from November 2024 to March 2025. As visitors step into the gallery, they will be greeted by a collection of over two dozen drawings and a treasure trove of memorabilia that pays homage to Davis' unparalleled talent and enduring influence on the world of comics and illustration.
Jack Davis was an American cartoonist and illustrator, known for his distinctive style and contributions to various publications. Born in 1924, Davis began his career as a freelance artist and quickly gained recognition for his humorous and exaggerated drawings. He became a regular contributor to the iconic magazine, MAD, where his work became highly influential. Davis also collaborated with other publications, including EC Comics, where he contributed to horror, science fiction, and war comics. Beyond his illustration work, Davis was also a successful commercial artist, creating advertisements and movie posters. He received numerous accolades for his contributions to the field of cartooning, including an induction into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame. Jack Davis passed away in 2016, leaving behind a lasting legacy as one of America's most celebrated cartoonists.
