HEAD TO TOE:
MERCHANDISING - MARKETING, FASHIONS FROM 1960’S TO PRESENT
NOVEMBER 11- DECEMBER 14, 2022
WILLIS SMITH CONSTRUCTION INC. GALLERY
A universal language transcending the ever-shifting cultural landscape of fashion. Relocating oneself in the crossover between familiarity and newness is the blueprint of a story worth sharing.
The Ringling College Galleries + Exhibitions and the Business of Art and Design departments, present a radical curatorial collaboration presented for the first time in an exhibition titled Head to Toe. Led by a student curatorial team who applied and were selected to participate in a semester-long class titled Role of the Curator where 10 students were provided a hands-on overview of how to successfully produce a fine arts exhibition and a breadth of other related arts disciplines, business, and entrepreneurship. With the aim of bridging generational gaps, this exhibition will introduce a universal language that transcends the ever-shifting cultural landscape of fashion.
ABOUT:
Head to Toe sees the work of fashion icon and influencer Marie Colbert, known for introducing “camouflage” to the industry. Colbert’s collection considers the influences of culture and inclusion over time, taking viewers on a journey wherein familiarity and newness coincide. The space will feature samples by high fashion names such as Oscar de la Renta, Donna Karan, Lester Hayatt, Paloma Picasso, Chanel and Ungaro.
The week following the opening reception, Fresco - a student-led sustainable fashion show - will draw inspiration from Colbert’s collection by designing complete head-to-toe looks for the runway. Each design will fall under the thematic umbrella of innovation in the fashion world, bringing to life a complete and powerful look that tells its own story.
